Shadows in my life
I walk in the valley of shadow and doubt
I know not what life is all about
Though lips I have learnt to purse and pout
And sing to the tune of Schubert’s Trout
♦
For I embark on life’s last ferry
And all around, within, seems dreary
Conjuring up moments so merry
I realize my heart’s too weary
♦
Through fading faces I walk alone
Through shadows and pleasures that once shone
Unto my eyes, brought my lips a moan
It’s all gone now, is my heart of stone?
♦
I walk, walk, on an endless journey
Through ashen faces once so creamy
To future for which I hold no key
With haggard eyes taken for dreamy
[Haggard steps mistaken for dreamy]
