Liebster Award

Liebster Award

28 December 2015

liebster5

I like the idea of loving that is suggested by the name of this award and I also accepted because the person who nominated me, John Coyote (http://johncoyote.wordpress.com ) is a sensitive and humane writer – not what you would normally expect of a soldier and that makes you even more amazed at the kind of stories and poetry he writes. Thank you John for your well-traveled path and life-inspired soul that you share in your writings

So here are the rules.

  1. Pick 5 people to nominate
  2. Ask and answer 5 questions
  3. Post the picture in the post mentioning the award and ping back to the original post nominating you (if you know how to, else don’t bother)

Questions:

  1. Do you like Holidays?

I like them a lot usually although at the beginning of my divorce I was having a hard time adjusting to the fact that my kids had to go see my ex-husband during that time so I could not enjoy the holidays with them. Since a couple of years I actually enjoy the break though I miss them once a week has gone by.

  1. Introvert or extrovert?

More on the extravert side, especially when I was younger but of late I like a lot of time alone as well, not because I am introvert but because recently I am in an environment where most people are not as genuine as what I would like. I like being with authentic people and have difficulty relating to people who are fake so if I sense there are a lot of fake people around, one could easily pass me off as being an introvert during that time as I would rather keep quiet and to myself than blurt out some hurtful truth 😀 .

  1. Is your writing real or fantasy?

I write both real and fantasy but sometimes even when I write real some people may think it is fantasy because it may seem far-fetched 😀

  1. What kind of blog do you describe yours as (many categories are fine)?

A blog of various artworks. I have put up mainly my writings of poetry and some short stories or thoughts alongside a few of my paintings, sketches and some photography (I must have taken over 10,000 photos all in all in various cities/countries).

  1. Are you afraid of anything, if so what?

I am not sure I am really afraid but let’s say that I really don’t like the idea of any of the three children I have passing away before I do. I know the kind of grief attached to that and would never again want to experience it

I will nominate a few but just remind that they are not forced to accept as I realise some people blog but don’t appreciate awards

  1. Thomas Ledrew a talented, romantic and wonderful writer and human being whose writings you should look up (http://hooklineandinkwell.wordpress.com).
  2. Annie “Scribes” a talented writer who likes experimenting with forms and from whose writing you would guess that she is full of kindness (https://whatthewomanwrote.wordpress.com )
  3. Mihran Kalaydjian – He has some wonderful songs on his blog that he sings himself and his voice is really heavenly. If you have not heard him before check out his youtube site or go to his wordpress blog where he posts his songs and reblogs other interesting bloggers too (http://kmihran.wordpress.com )
  4. Shitij Sharma – He writes some thought-provoking insights and usually in quite short form so it is easy to read (http://shitijsharma24.wordpress.com/)
  5. Tony Gaulton who likes poetry and theatre (he actually participates in plays) and who posts short insights or sometimes funny absurd questions/thoughts of the day as well as some beautiful pictures (https://bjgaulton.wordpress.com/ )

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

24 December 2015

sisterhood-award

I had said I don’t do awards normally and then I just got another one from yet another person I really like so could not say no and I actually get to torture another seven. Just kidding of course they are free to accept it or not and answer the ten questions but whatever they decide I think you should check out their blogs because you might really like them and want to follow them.

Although he got and passed on to me amongst others the sisterhood award, Thomas said he just checked and it’s confirmed he’s not a woman. I tried to take a peek but he would not let me do so 😀 .  I guess I’ll have to take his word for it then 😛 . Regardless of what lies beneath, he is a wonderful writer and bakes some fantastic cakes and other food but then again he hogs them alone or with just the deserving few so I never got to try any sadly 😀 . You can check out his writing skills and some of his recipes at http://hooklineandinkwell.wordpress.com   an inspiring blog with so many beautiful inkdrops. He has been an inspiration and a teacher for some new art forms I never knew existed before. Thank you Thomas aka FT Ledrew for being you.

The Rules

  1. Say “Thank You” to the person who nominated you & link their blog to your post.
  2. Answer the 10 questions given to you.
  3. Pass the award on to 7 other bloggers and let them know they have been nominated.
  4. Include the Award Badge in your post.

The Answer my friend….

  1. What made you want to start your blog?

– I started off my blog as a means of expunging difficult happenings in my life and then it just became addictive and as Thomas says too I can’t see my days without having this blog! I also thought it would be a good way to keep my writings in the same place where I could retrieve them because I had started writing at the age of 13 but lost most of my poetry and short stories over the years, moving from one place to the other.

2. What have you wanted to do on your blog but haven’t yet? Why not?
– I had always wanted to write plays but refrained from it because I thought it would not be the right place to post them

3. Name one item on your bucket list, or more if you like?
– I would like to go paragliding one day. I was always afraid of heights, a problem worsened by a condition with my inner ear and had to work a lot on myself to be able to ski in the mountains, specially on steeper slopes but I would really love to see the Earth from high up there before kicking the bucket

4. What is your biggest fear?
– My biggest fear is that I should outlive my three children

5. What is your best moment in life?
– I had four of them. The birth of my three children and the moment I got them back with me after having lost them for a year in a difficult and biased custody battle.

6. With New Years fast approaching, do you make resolutions? If so, name one. If not, why don’t you like to make them?
– I don’t like making resolutions with the New Year. I think that we should keep trying to do the best we can and attempting every day to be who we really are. Resolutions do not make a person. Trying every day does

7. If you could host a challenge on your blog, what kind would it be?
– I would not host a challenge on my blog as I already have a lot of things to do and keep running around like a headless chicken with barely time to pen down the poems that swarm in my head (a lot get lost actually because I have nothing to write with while they are swarming and then I just can’t get them back anymore). I respect and admire those who are kind enough to host such challenges on their blog, especially when they actually also review the writings of most like Ronovan (http://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com ).

8. What was the name of your first pet? What do you remember the most about them?
– My first pet was a cat named Minnona. One day we heard her miauling her throat away angrily and when my dad put the light on, we found her between my brother and a scorpion which she was miauling at and not allowing to go nearer my brother.

9. Did you ever go to a high school reunion? Was it fun or not?
– I’ve never been to a high school reunion because my school never organised any when I lived nearby and then when it did start organising reunions I lived too far away to go there.

10. Do you have a pet peeve?
– I have a couple: cigarette smoke (it actually hurts my throat mucus which swells and gives me a terrible throat ache just starting from 10 minutes of exposure) and unkindness in people I felt close with.

The nominees for me are…

Note that this is not an obligation to actually answer the questions. Feel free to do so if you don’t mind and I think a lot of us will enjoy reading your answers. If you don’t like the whole award schbang then you’re free to also not follow up. I think however that people will enjoy your work.

There were a few others that my mind went to but those have been nominated by Thomas so I have included the others. There are around three more I have not added but I do not think less of their amazing work.

  1. Tosha at http://laliterati.com, a wonderful blogger, writer, singer with the eternal mix of humour “ice-cream and sadness” that characterises many poets and writers
  2. Annette at http://annetterochelleaben.wordpress.com , a mentor, wordsmith and guide with beautiful daily quotes from the angels
  3. Monica at http://lookaround99.wordpress.com a sweet young lady who writes about beautiful feelings and places
  4. Kally at http://middleme.net/ a young lady who strives to help others with very interesting advice and tips.
  5. Tessa at http://finallyawriter.com/ a wise and kind lady who struggled with bipolar disorder since she was a child and tries to help others with her insights and open thoughts. I discovered her writings recently thanks to Ronovan Writes challenges
  6. Ritu at http://butismileanyway.wordpress.com a sunny character who has lots of smiles, words and hugs to share with others. From her writings she seems like the kind of sister you would want in real life
  7. Last but not least hocuspocus at http://hocuspocus13.wordpress.com where you can read all about magic, fairytales, recipes, the old ways, funny things, politics, naughty stuff, etc and where a lot of other magical writers are also reblogged, thereby broadening your possibilities of discovering new things. I don’t think I ever read a blog where she disclosed her name so let’s leave it at hocuspocus 😀

Dragons in Heart

Dragons in Heart

13 December 2015

dragon loyalty.png

I was nominated for the dragon loyalty award. While I don’t usually follow up on awards in general, I was inclined to do it for this one because of the person who nominated me, Tosha Michelle, a wonderful writer and musician who writes artfully and with a lot of insight, passion and beauty in what she expresses. If you do not know her writing or her songs, please do check her out at http://laliterati.com/

She also has many other aspects to her that I will let you discover from her blog.

The rules are 1) Display the award on your blog. 2) Announce your nomination with a post and link the blogger who nominated you 3) Present 6 deserving bloggers with the award (see below) 4) Link your awardees in the post 5) Write 7 interesting facts about you

So here I go with the facts (I had to remove the OCD part because the person nominating me already got there before I did  and also because it has become thankfully almost non existent in my life now)

  1. I was a hyperactive kid with a very high IQ but with absolutely no sense of being social so I liked to be a lot by myself. Thankfully through the years of growing up my IQ went down and what is now called my EQ went up so I became more sociable
  2. When I was a child, I used to spend most of my time day-dreaming and gazing at the stars because I was convinced that my home was up there and that I was not meant to be here on Earth. I still have a big attraction for the skies but the sense of longing, unbearable nostalgia and wanting to go away immediately has thankfully reduced over the years.
  3. I was called “swallow the moon” (“gobe la lune” in French) because you could make me believe just about anything when I was a child and an adolescent. I never failed to believe that people were telling the truth no matter how far-fetched what they said seemed, which earned me my first nickname
  4. I was extremely lazy and barely studied but always scored the highest marks and consistently was the first in class except for the last year of my school (graduation year to my parents’ and school teachers’ utter dismay) when I went through a rebel phase and decided that I was not going to study at all but just go to the beach almost all the time  because I was fed up of being first and wanted to be just like everyone else for a change. I actually wanted that since a while but that was the first year I got the courage to disobey.
  5. My latest nickname which has stuck with me since my young adult age – first uttered by a boyfriend long gone now (may he RIP) – is Blue. You can consider that I have a very very long Blue period unlike Picasso because I have not yet changed my nickname to anything else. I feel good being Blue
  6. I love playing 3 to 5 minutes chess games called blitz on a website called freechess.org and sometimes can get totally engrossed by this to the point that I can forget to eat until night falls when I am alone (when my kids are away). Thankfully my children are with me except for school holidays so that keeps me on track for eating most of the time.
  7. I wanted to be an artist and had always loved drawing and sketching but am self-taught as I was not able to take art courses (directed by my parents when I was younger and then hogged up by life’s constraints later). To console myself for not being able to follow art orientation instead of sciences at school I used to draw on my pants and paint them much to my mother’s dismay and the anger of my school teachers as it was back in the 80s and having painted jeans was not fashionable yet. I still like to draw and paint though on canvas since a while and find it very comforting and a good way of expressing myself.

Moving on to the awardees, I would like to nominate the following people (I would have loved to include Tosha and Eric but the first nominated me and the second was already nominated by the first). I have to say there are so many more who should be nominated in general because their work is so beautiful and interesting but as this list has to be limited to 6 I stopped it at that figure choosing those who made me somehow think of the characteristics of a dragon as I see the creature.

  1. Deborah aka dancingpalmtrees (http://dancingpalmtrees.com/) a fine human being and writer who has a very fiery spirit and does not hesitate to speak her mind. Aside from being an amazingly insightful and sensitive writer, she is also a much needed support and beacon of light for her brother Stephen who is a grown man suffering from autism. Her current battle is to ensure that siblings get the same rights as parents in terms of days of leave to take care of a family member in need.
  2. Thomas aka FT Ledrew (https://hooklineandinkwell.wordpress.com/) an amazing writer and Senryu master aside from his photography and baking skils. He introduced me to many art forms (alas by inference and not by direct contact) through the beautiful poetry he wrote in those art forms. I always look forward to reading his poetry.
  3. Annie aka pixieannie (http://ponderingsofapixie.com/) a very creative lady who amazes me not just with her outreach into the world of poetry, photography and drawing but also with her capacity to cut down trees, use tools that in my limited upbringing I thought only men could master. We can safely say she is my Heroin because she is capable of doing so many things I could only dream of doing
  4. Dajena aka moonskittles – her name is pronounced like Diana – (https://moonskittles.wordpress.com/) a witty and very talented writer who multiplies herself between her family/worldly life and a beautiful blog which she populates with creative output in the form of poems, beautiful photography or sometimes recounts whether fiction or stories about things that actually happened in her daily life
  5. Paul aka Paully (https://paully1965.wordpress.com/) a writer with an extreme sensitivity and a very generous heart who writes beautiful poetry
  6. Tony Single (http://crumblecult.com/) whom I “discovered” not so long ago and who is an amazing cartoonist (I am a fan of the strange crumble world now), poet, keen observer of human nature and who also likes and expresses himself through photography. All of these talents are showcased in different sites that you can discover when you visit his crumblecult site.
